We’ve probably all heard the story of George Washington and his wooden teeth, and it’s a great motivator for good dental hygiene! The truth of the matter though, is many of us share George’s tight-lipped smile because our teeth aren’t in that great of shape. While fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures are a great option for many, there’s now a newer procedure that lets you start anew with a great smile: dental implants.
Before you shake your head and turn away thinking it’s not for you, investigate the details of getting implants to replace missing or damaged teeth. Medical advancements have made implants more affordable, and unlike crowns that will eventually need to be replaced or dentures that will periodically need to be relined, implants are forever. That’s right; you can have the smile you’ve always longed for, and they won’t get cavities like your natural teeth. You can have a beautiful smile for the rest of your life!
Of course there are downsides with implants. They’re more expensive than bridges or dentures, and insurance typically doesn’t cover the cost. They also take longer; think months instead of one or two quick visits to the dentist. They can break and chip, too, the same as real teeth. You’ll still have to practice good oral hygiene; you just won’t have to worry about cavities and an embarrassing smile!
All in all though, in my opinion the good outweighs the bad when it comes to implants. Most dentists and oral surgeons who perform implant surgery have payment plans, and many have free consultations. Check for online discounts, and do some research on the process, cost, and timeline of getting dental implants. You may be pleasantly surprised, and once you’ve completed the process you’ll be stunned at how much your smile adds to your self esteem.
Don’t take my word for it; check it out yourself. Find out the cost and timeframe for your own situation, and make a decision based on your own wants and needs. After all, your smile will be with you the rest of your life so you might as well make it shine!
